The Pdf Method for Turbulent Combustion
PDF methods provide a means of calculating the properties of turbulent reacting flobs. They have been successfully applied to many turbulent flames, including some with finite-rate kinetic effects. Here the methods are reviewed with an emphasis on computational issues and on their application to turbulent combustion.
متن کاملAn Unsteady/Flamelet Progress Variable Method for LES of Nonpremixed Turbulent Combustion
An unsteady flamelet/progress variable model has been developed and formulated as an extension of the steady flamelet/progress variable model. For this model, a large number of unsteady laminar flamelet simulations is performed for various conditions, and solutions are recorded as function of time. From this, a flamelet library is generated, which provides the filtered quantities of all scalar ...
متن کاملConditional filtering method for large-eddy simulation of turbulent nonpremixed combustion
The conditional filtering method is proposed as a subfilter combustion model for large-eddy simulation LES of turbulent nonpremixed combustion. The novel method is based on conditional filtering of a reactive scalar field and an extension of conditional moment closure CMC for LES. Filtering conditioned on isosurfaces of the mixture fraction is adopted to resolve small-scale mixing and chemical ...
متن کاملA New Scalar Reynolds Stress Model For Non-Isothermal Wall Bounded Turbulent Flows
The present investigation concerns the development of advanced scalar turbulence modeling approaches and their application to the calculation of non-isothermal wall-bounded flow phenomena. A new scalar modeling technique based on scalar turbulent scales is proposed and implemented at a second-order modeling approach. Instead of the classical analogy concept between the mechanical and the scalar...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Scalar Probability Density Function Approach for Turbulent Jet Nonpremixed Flames
A scalar probability density function (PDF) method considering a detailed chemical kinetics is applied to a diluted hydrogen turbulent jet nonpremixed flame to evaluate the performance. The flame is formed on a nozzle of an inner diameter of D=6mm, with a fuel exit velocity of 30m/s, surrounded by two annular pipes issuing airs of higher and lower velocities of 30m/s and 3m/s, respectively. The...
